Boulder Ridge Fellowship was formed in 1977 by the vision and leadership of Rev. Ace Ferguson and the support of his family. The first corporate worship services were held in the local Legion Hall. In 1978, property was purchased (3.8 acres) with the tended purpose for a building site. The initial building program began in 1979 and was completed in 1980. Pastor Ferguson retired from the Church in 1990 and passed away shortly thereafter. He is long remembered for his fiery preaching and boldness in witnessing to the lost.
Rev. Anthony Lane served as senior pastor from 1990 to 1996. Under Lane’s leadership in 1992 another section (fellowship hall and classrooms) of the 905 SE J Street building was completed and dedicated. Pastor Lane’s ministry was highlighted by many revival services, special singings, and his own unique style of preaching and teaching. One of Pastor Lane’s main goals was to disciple Christians, both young and old, through his teaching and to get them grounded in the Word of God.
Rev. Ellis Doyle served as senior pastor from 1996 to 2005. Rev. Doyle led the Church to focus on the children and youth ministry. He had a heart for young people and lead efforts to establish a Church Training Service, with its primary focus on youth Bible competitions. Many families within the congregation saw their children accept Christ as a result of the dedication and example of this humble man of God.
In March 2007 God brought to the Church Dr. Doug Adkins. Dr. Adkins arrived during a time when the Church was at a crossroads and looking for new direction and leadership. His ministry has focused on the goal of delivering the same gospel message but using new methods in making that message culturally relevant for today. God has mightily used his talents, training, wisdom, and vision to lead the Church in a new direction using a process called Re-Launch. Re-launch is a multi-step process that stimulates refocus on all areas of Church ministry & structure.
On June 8, 2008, Dr. Adkins shared the vision of Re-launch with the Church, which was in turn unanimously adopted by its core group. The vision began with a refocus on all areas of ministry, worship, and Church structure. Some samples of Phase I Re-Launch:
• Realign ministry priorities
• Hiring a bi-vocational youth leader
• Create a custom Church purpose statement
• Delineate core values and core beliefs
• Develop a process for assimilating new members
• Formulate a purpose driven fiscal budget
• Seek and implement investment strategies
• Restructure Church Constitution & Bylaw
• Define and Refine Charter Membership enrollment
Phase II of the Re-Launch Vision (Replant) concluded with relocating the Church, obtaining a new Church name, and constructing a new Church building. In 2015, God graciously opened doors for the Church to sell the J Street property to Wal-Mart, and to purchase new property at 4301 E Central Avenue (22 acres). A new building program began in the latter half of 2015 and the Church adopted the new name “Boulder Ridge Fellowship.” A two-year lease of the J Street property, which was part of the terms of sale, allowed us to remain at the location until the building was complete and thus allowed the Church to remain debt free through the entire process. Boulder Ridge Fellowship celebrated its first service on the new campus in the new church building on Mother’s Day, 2017.
